The Save Our Snow Foundation
The Save Our Snow Foundation
The Save Our Snow Foundation was founded to educate the outdoor world on global warming solutions to help save our snow and save our planet. While many of us love snow and wintersports, saving our snow ultimately saves our precious water. That very melting of snow and glaciers is causing ocean levels to rise worldwide. Just last year the Arctic Ice, home to the polar bears, was predicted to melt by 2100, but the latest predictions are that it could be gone as soon as 2012 (NASA climate scientist Jay Zwally). This will be devastating to surf industry and the bulk of humanity that lives on the coast around the world. While sea levels are rising, clean drinking water will be melting away, as almost 50% of the world's drinking water comes from glacial and snow melt, providing nourishment for plants, animals and humans. For us in the sports industry, the proverbial canary in the coal mine, global warming's impacts are already being felt, and will be economically devastating. Planetary warming, brings about more extreme weather and unpredictability, such as drought and severe storms that fall more and more as rain instead of snow. This year's blows have been devastating, including the first ski area to go out of business due to lack of snow (Abondance, France), and the first island to go underwater (Sunderban's India), which left 10,000 homeless. Warmer temperatures also mean more invasive plants and pests, such as the Pine Beetle, which is devastating forests and mountain bike trails and tourism industry in North America. And those warmer temperatures also mean earlier melting of snow, which is devastating to the boating and kayaking world for the summer season, not to mentions humans, livestock, food production and wildlife. So support the Save Our Snow Foundation, to promote education for global warming solutions, to save our snow and save our planet.
Saving our Snow and water
for Future Generations
Our snow is the lifeline for the sports that we love, such as surfing, boating, biking, skiing and snowboarding.
Yet more importantly snow provides drinking water for half the planet.
